Mounts strong at Mule Classic

ImageThis past weekend the Ephrata Wrestling team traveled to Solanco for the Mule Classic. After finishing 19th out of 20 with 2 place-winners a year ago the Mounts made a big jump finishing 9th out of 19 with 6 place-winners. They were led my James Zimmerman’s championship at 285 pounds. Zimmerman won his first two matches by 1st period fall before picking up two wins by way of decision. Jordan Becker joined him in the finals at 189.

Where Zimmerman found success Becker found frustration. Becker wrestled a stingy wrestler thus limiting his offense. Becker suffered a 9-1 loss, his 1st loss on the season. He had picked up 2 more falls and a major decision on his way to the finals.

After suffering an opening round upset Blake Crowther, 160, had a long road ahead of him if he wanted to place. After 4 victories on Saturday morning, one of which was a redemption over his opening round opponent, Blake lost a close 3-1 match to pick up a 4th place finish. Jared Becker picked up a 7th place finish after hitting a last second “Peterson” to win the match. Jared finished 3-2 on the weekend. He was joined in 7th place with Joel Yoder at 171. Joel won his match by way of forfeit. Joel also finished 3-2 on the weekend.

Rounding out the medals was Mikey Hanna picking up an 8th place finish at 125 pounds. Mikey was 2-3 on the weekend. The Mounts resume their season on Thursday the 14th with their first home match against the Golden Mules of Solanco.
