Lady Mounts split tip-off Tourney

ImageThe Lady Mounts lost their opening game of the year, but came back strong in the consolation game winning the latter by 25 points.

In the first game it was all Panthers. Corielle Yarde earned a spot on the All-State team last year as a sophomore. She is on her way there again after pouring in 30 points as she led Schuylkill Valley over Ephrata, 70-54, in the opening round of the Daniel Boone Tip-Off Tournament on Friday.

Ephrata unveiled their new look, run-and-gun style. While they trailed by 6 at the half, the 37-31 score indicated that the game was played at Ephrata's pace. However, a 24-7 third quarter gave the Panthers enough cushion to hold off the Mounts.

Brynn Lyons led Ephrata with 12 points. Aly Goodman had a nice all-around game in her first career varsity start, scoring 8 points to go with 6 assists and 6 steals.

Christine Weaver set a team record with 5 blocks, while also scoring 7 points and added 12 rebounds.

Ephrata was down 22-13 late in the first, but put together a 9-0 run that featured a three-pointer from Claire Woolley. The Mounts were down 39-33 early in the second half, but an 18-2 run closed them out.

Ashton Pachuilo added 25 for the Panthers.

In the second game, Ephrata started a little slowly in the consolation game of the Daniel Boone Tip-Off Tournament Saturday. The Mounts, who aren't doing much slowly this season, got it in gear with a 24-6 run to cruise by Palisades, 61-36.

The balanced attack of Ephrata was demonstrated during that big first-half run, as 7 different players scored. Arielle Gordon (game-high 13 points) hit a three to open the second quarter and give the Mounts the lead for good.

Gordon added 6 assists and 5 steals for Ephrata. Brynn Lyons nearly had a triple double, with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 steals. The Mounts picked up 58 rebounds and collected 23 steals.

Aly Goodman added 8 points and 9 rebounds. Nicole Martin had 7 points and 6 boards, while Emily Beamesderfer scored 5 points and collected 8 rebounds.

Schuylkill Valley cruised to the tournament championship with a 64-35 win over host Daniel Boone.
