Sweigart and Burridge move on

ImageAll the members of the Ephrata Mounts starting five enjoyed a win in the first round of the L-L league playoffs, but unfortunately they all suffered a loss in the second round as well. And after the first two rounds of individual match play, and one round of doubles action, only Brad Sweigart and Shane Burridge remain alive in the league playoffs.

Sweigart (8-5) started the day off defeating Troy Wojcik (GS) 6-1, 6-1. The win moved Sweigart up the bracket to cross-town rival Cocalico's Michael Duong. Duong jumped out taking the first set 6-3, while Sweigart came back to win the second set, which ended in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3), but Duong responded taking the third set 6-2.

In flight two Burridge (6-7) defeated Warwick's Ian Gebhard 7-6, 6-4 in the first round. In the second round Alex Trimble (Eto) proved too much as he eliminated Burridge 5-7, 6-3, 10-5.

Brett Simmons (7-6) defeated Mike Moran (Don) 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of flight three. Hempfield's Kevin Schulz was waiting in the second round however. Simmons would end up taking Schulz three sets as well, before losing 6-2, 0-6, 5-10.

In flight four Cameron Auker (4-9) defeated Ethan Jones (Leb) 1-6, 6-3, 10-4 before losing to Elco's Fred Shaak in straight sets 0-6, 1-6.

Drew Kramer (5-8) defeated Luke Harcom (PV) in the first round of flight five with a close 7-5, 6-4 score. Lancaster Catholic's Nick Grassgerger returned the favor in the second round dropping Kramer by the same 7-5, 6-4 score.

After winning a preliminary doubles match on Monday in straight sets over Troy Wojcik and Mitch Good (GS), Sweigart and Burridge (7-4) went on to win their first round match over Steven Child and Cole Turula (LCD) both sets reached tie-breaker before the Mounts prevailed. The Mounts won the first set 7-6 (7-4) and the second set 7-6 (7-2)

Auker and Kramer weren't so lucky the first round of the second flight doubles bracket, drawing and losing to Cedar Crest's Steven Kurban and Andre Wentzel in straight sets 4-6, 0-6.

Sweigart and Burridge advance to play CV's Derek Gregg and Kip Zechman who knocked off the 4th seeded Hempfield team of Alan Hummel and Kevin Schulz.
