Lancaster Mennonite ousts Mounts

Lancaster Mennonite topped Ephrata, 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 in the opening round of the league playoffs. The Blazers didn't really run away with any game but kept Ephrata at arm's length throughout.

"We just haven't been able to close out a match,'' said Mounts coach Brian Lesher. We've hung around with a lot of teams but we just can't seem to close them out.''

The Blazers' front row players had a lot to do with that. Erin LaVenice, Rachel Kennel and Jessica Rehinheimer were too much for Ephrata to handle up front. While they never took big leads until late in each of the three games, the Blazers never felt threatened.

"I know they are conscious of the score but I know they have a lot of confidence in their ability to win the match,'' said LM coach Erin Martin.

LaVenice and Kennel finished with eight kills each and Jessica Rheinheimer had three blocks.

The Lady Mounts are in action again on Tuesday night Oct. 27th, as they play Manheim Central at Warwick High School at 6:00 for District Playoff seedings. Depending on the results of that match, they will then play either Warwick or Manheim Township.
