Cross Country teams quick out of the gate


The Ephrata girls cross country team kicked off the season in a successful way Tuesday afternoon, running to four wins in a five-team meet held at Brubaker Park in New Holland.

Ephrata defeated Annville-Cleona (16-42), Elco (25-30), Northern Lebanon (15-47) and the host Spartans (21-36) to remain perfect after one day of competition.

Individually, Dana Haas led the way for the Lady Mounts, finishing in a time of 22:28 to place third overall. Caitlin Davies (23:11) was next in fifth place for Ephrata, while the rest of the top five included: Ashley Smith (6th, 23:14); Steph Lyons (7th, 23:16); and Kate Anderson (12th, 24:10).

On the boys' side, Ephrata also was successful, going 3-1 on the opening day. Ephrata claimed victories over Northern Lebanon (26-29), Elco (23-33) and Annville-Cleona (24-33) while losing only to Garden Spot (24-37).

Individually, Tyler Sensenig took top honors for the Mounts, finishing third overall in a time of 19:13. Brandon McNeil (19:25) was fifth while Mickey Molchany (14th, 20:21), Austin Wealand (21st, 20:53) and Brandon Reading (23rd, 21:07) rounded out the top five for Ephrata.
