Lady Mounts net playoff spot


Ephrata’s girls basketball team got a little redemption on Friday night.

One year after a toughluck 0-6 finish to go from first place to completely out of the postseason, the Mountaineers finished the job.

Gabi Gerola-Hill scored 14 points, Jocelyn Umana chipped in with 11 points, and she and Carly Holochuck had clutch fourth-quarter buckets as host Ephrata rallied past Warwick 4843 to wrap up a spot in the Lancaster-Lebanon League playoffs.

Lady Mounts come up short


WEST CHESTER — Possession is ninetenths of the law, in soccer as in life.

Pennridge possessed for nine-tenths of Tuesday’s PIAA 4A girls semifinal at West Chester East’s Zimmerman Stadium, advancing to Saturday’s championship match with a 1-0 decision over Ephrata.

The Rams (21-3-1) will face Suburban One Continental Conference neighbor Souderton for the title at Hersheypark Stadium in a 4:30 p.m. start.

PENNSBURG — Back at the beginning of the season, if one said the Ephrata girls soccer team would make a deep run in the state tournament, the response would’ve been, “Well, duh!”

But in the late stages of the regular season, the response might’ve been, “What?”
