Male trophy stays in Lititz


The George Male Trophy is staying in Lititz.

In the annual battle for the coveted prize, Warwick capitalized on five Ephrata turnovers and knocked off its backyard rival for the 15th year in a row, winning 42-14 in a nonleague football game at Ephrata’s War Memorial Field.

Mounts blank Pioneers


Ephrata girls soccer coach Rob Deininger had a huge smile on his face as he walked off his home field Thursday night, and with good reason.

His Mounts had kept their record perfect at 2-0 with a big 2-0 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two win over Lampeter-Strasburg.

But while the victory came over a team laden with a ton of talent from its 2020 District Three championship run and a brimming with confidence after a solid 4-2 win over Elizabethtown earlier in the week, Deininger wouldn’t go as far as saying it was a statement game.

Mounts top Cougars


PALMYRA — It’s an historic start, and a great position from which to build.

On a clear Friday night at Palmyra’s Buck Swank Stadium, the Ephrata football team used a strong opening half, as well as 135 rushing yards and four touchdowns from running back Andre Weidman, to post a 28-7 nonleague triumph over the hometown Cougars. Now 2-0 on the young season, the Mountaineers are off to their best start since 2000.

Mounts drop Muhlenberg Win Season Opener


Most of today’s Ephrata players had not yet been born the last time Mountaineers won the opening game of a football season.

Kris Miller said it’s been 18 years since his team started 1-0, and although it wasn’t pretty and there are areas to clean up, the head coach will take the 41-20 nonleague triumph over Muhlenberg on Saturday morning at Ephrata’s War Memorial Field.
