Ephrata has a new head football coach.

Conestoga Valley grad and former Northern Lebanon defensive coordinator Kris Miller received school board approval on Monday night, and he’ll be the Mountaineers’ next coach.

Depth Gives Eagles Edge


As if facing rival Ephrata in a meet that opened the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two girls’ swimming season wasn’t enough, Cocalico had something extra on Tuesday afternoon at the Ephrata Rec Center.

And it showed in the first swim of the opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, when sophomore Sophie Guthridge returned from injury and entered the water for the backstroke leg.

Pioneers slip past Mounts


The Lampeter-Strasburg girls’ basketball team rallied from a nine point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime and knock off Ephrata, 61-60, in double-overtime in the first round of the Ephrata Holiday Tournament on Monday.

After rallying to tie the game at 44 in regulation, Hanna Garber paced the Pioneers with six of her eight points in overtime while Laura Horner also tallied six of her 14-points in extra time.

Falcons Bolt past Mounts


With the basket and three Ephrata defenders to her back, and the score tied at 18 in the final minute of the first half of a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section One-Two crossover game, Cedar Crest’s Alyssa Austin decided to try something different.

The 6-foot-2 junior dribbled the ball beyond the 3-point line, turned and knocked down a long-range shot, sending the Falcons into halftime with a lead that evolved into a 50-34 victory.
