Lady Mounts ousted from Districts

The Lady Mounts field hockey team opened District 3 play against Central Dauphin on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Mounts their season came to an end losing 1-6. Katie Hammaker stopped 23 shots for the Mountaineers, but the difference was in the offensive end, where the Rams (15-4-2) were able to crack the cage, while Ephrata got just one goal from Nicole Wilkerson after falling into a 6-0 hole.

Central Dauphin will play Hershey (12-7-1), which knocked off second-seeded Dallastown (19-1-1), at 1 p.m. Saturday at Milton Hershey.

Barons take measure of Mounts

MOUNTS FAN'S NOTE: This was an article written for the Lancaster paper, so if you were hoping to read about some Ephrata player ... just the smallest blurb or mention about someone that did something, or said something, that was from Ephrata and not Manheim, this is not the article for you, you will not find it here. Feel free to look at the box score [here]; as it will include names from both teams. Thanks!

Oh!! and in case you're curious "take measure of" means to make a judgment or form an opinion about someone or something. Used correctly like this: "The Barons quietly observed the Mounts, taking the measure of this team they had heard so much about."

********

It's Homecoming weekend in Manheim and must-win football has already begun for the Barons.

Soccer team ousted in Quarterfinals

Lancaster Mennonite (12-7), the Section Three runner-up, eliminated Section Two champion Ephrata 1-0 on Mitchell Rohrer's finish of a C.J. Sturges cross, 5:50 into the contest.

On the Blazers' first foray into the offensive third, Caleb Gish played a ball from the right wing to Sturges, who found Rohrer, alone on the back side of the play, outside the far post.
