Lady Mounts earn spot in States


Ephrata picked up a pair of first half goals and held off a flurry of chances from Cedar Cliff over the final 20 minutes, advancing to the District Three Class AAA semifinals and clinching a state playoff berth with a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Cedar Crest High School.

In other Class AAA games involving L-L teams, 10th-seeded Elizabethtown shocked second seeded Lower Dauphin, 2-1, and 19th-seeded Penn Manor bowed out of the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Hershey.

Raiders top Mounts


Elco quarterback Jeffrey Martin led an aerial assault against Ephrata, leading his squad to a 55-7 victory [box score] on Friday night.

Martin hit his first four pass attempts on the Raiders’ opening drive, connecting with 6-foot-1, 220-pound tight end Dylan Stoops from 16 yards out for their first of two scoring plays.

Mounts upset Hempfield


It didn't really matter if nobody outside of Ephrata believed in the Ephrata's girls' soccer team going into its District Three Class AAA first-rounder match with Hempfield, what was important was the Mountaineers believed in themselves.

With time running out in the second 15-minute overtime period, and penalty kicks looming, Brittany Lutz took a ball from Taylor Moore and buried it in the back of the net, sending the Mountaineers to Saturday's quarterfinals, 2-1.

Braves topple Mounts


Pequea Valley scored on their first three possessions and coasted to a 42-7 [box score] win over Ephrata on Friday night at War Memorial Field.

The Braves (2-3 Section Three, 4-4 overall) took advantage of four Ephrata (0-4, 0-8) turnovers, converting three of them into 21 points.
