Pioneers hold off Ephrata rally

The Ephrata boys lacrosse team found itself down four goals 90 seconds into the start of the second half at Lampeter-Strasburg’s Pioneer Field on Tuesday night. It’s then the visiting Mountaineers rallied for three quick scores over two minutes to cut their deficit to one score. But the Ephrata rally ended there. The host Pioneers scored the game’s final five goals en route to a 13-7 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two victory.

What it means: With the win, L-S (8-1 league, 12-3 overall) clinched at least a share of the L-L Section Two crown and can win it outright with a win in Friday’s league finale at Cocalico on Friday afternoon.

Buch Thriving for Mounts This Season

Look. Up in the sky. It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s … not the superhero you thought.

It’s actually Ephrata hitter Jordan Buch, and he’s having a superhuman senior season skying above the net for the Mountaineers’ boys volleyball team.

Like his leaping ability, Buch’s stats absolutely pop off the page. He already has 200-plus kills this spring, and he’s had some incredible, spike-producing matches. A sampling: Buch had 25 kills, 17 digs and five blocks against Governor Mifflin; 22 kills against Lebanon; 20 kills, 18 digs and six blocks against Elizabethtown; 25 kills and 26 digs against Lancaster Mennonite; 29 kills against three-time reigning L-L Section Two champ Manheim Central; 25 kills and 13 digs in a rematch against Elizabethtown; and an eye-popping 31-kill night against Cocalico.

Bears Hand Mounts four set Loss

It was Rudy Woitas Night on Thursday at Elizabethtown.

And not just because he soared through the air with the greatest of ease and slammed down 21 kills for the Bears’ boys volleyball team. Turns out Woitas is Elizabethtown’s lone 12th-grader, and he was honored on Senior Night before a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two clash against Ephrata.

Then he went out and dominated the Mountaineers, piling up big spike after tantalizingly big spike in Elizabethtown’s 3-1 victory. Set scores were 25-22, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-13, as the Bears (5-1) remained in a second-place tie with Manheim Central, which beat Lebanon 3-0.
