Mules rip Mounts

It was Senior Night at Ephrata's War Memorial Stadium Friday night. It's a night when the fans honor the senior band members, cheerleaders and football players.

Of course the Mountaineers wanted to notch their first victory when they hosted Solanco and it looked like they might do that as they scored first. But unfortunately for Ephrata, the Golden Mules played spoiler and came back to win, 37-17 [box score].

Coming off a short week thanks to last week's rain, Manheim Central stuck with what they do well-running the ball. The Barons (5-0, 8-0) rushed for 428 yards and scored six touchdowns on the ground on their way to a 65-0 [box score] whitewashing of Ephrata (0-5, 0-8) at War Memorial Field Friday night.

From the outset, the Barons decided to rotate quarterbacks Colin Fry and Tony Staffieri. With Fry taking the start, he handed off to running back Marc Royer six straight plays on the Barons' first possession. After runs for 17 and 13 yards, the Mounts turned back Royer three times from their 4 before Royer converted on fourth-and-goal with 7:10 left in the first quarter.

Bears blank Mounts

The Bears got four scoring plays of 45 yards or longer en route to blanking Ephrata, 48-0 [box score], on Homecoming Night at Thompson Field.

"I told them this week to play with some fun and enthusiasm," said Elizabethtown coach Mike Cottle, whose team won for only the second time in the last six weeks. "I think we lost the fun of football the last couple weeks. They came out tonight and had fun. When you have fun, you play better."
