Foster Gets Edge in 3200

When Ephrata’s Andrew Foster and Conestoga Valley’s Nathan Grucelski had 200 meters to go in their race, it looked nothing like a distance run.

In fact, the casual observer at Friday’s first day of the Lancaster-Lebanon League boys track championships may have thought they were watching a 400 dash instead of the 3,200 run.

The two juniors, close all race, were in a fullbore sprint in their final turns at Hempfield.

Shue Makes His Big Move

Everything changed for Tyler Shue in the 800-meter run at the Lancaster-Lebanon League Championships last year.

As a wiry Ephrata freshman, Shue fought to stay at the front of the senior-laden field, pushing the pace against the likes of McCaskey’s Nathan Henderson and Lebanon’s Derin Klick as they barreled toward the end of their high school careers.

Step-for-step with Henderson in the race’s final 100 meters in a torrid race for second place, Shue’s legs locked up with the Mc-Caskey senior’s stride and gave out with about 25 meters to go.

Lady Mounts Clinch Section 2 Title

Ephrata’s Alyssa Fedorshak found another gear in the final lap of the 3,200-meter run with a pair of Elizabethtown girls ahead of her and a pair of candy bars waiting for her at the finish line, as the race and the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two title tilt between the two undefeated teams came down to the wire.

“I locked on the girl in front of me,” Fedorshak said, “and was, like, ‘I want this section title more than them. I want it more.’ And I fought for it as hard as I could. Everything in my legs were pulling and stretching. I didn’t even care. I just wanted to do it for my team.”
