The Year in Review


ImageWith the 2006-2007 season approaching, I'd like to take a look back at the accomplishments that we enjoyed last season.

Ephrata teams claimed two Section Championships as the Baseball team (16-7) and the Boys' Soccer team (17-2-1) earned the crown in the regular season.

The Mounts also picked up team Sportsmanship awards in Golf, Boys' / Girls' Swimming and Boys' Volleyball, this was the second straight year for the Volleyball team to receive this title.

The Girls' Soccer team earned the Team Academic Award.

For the second straight year the Girls' Bowling Team was declared the Unofficial State Champion.

Three teams qualified for District play, they included the Boys' Soccer team, the baseball team and the Softball team.

Competing in League playoffs was the Boys' Soccer, Bowling, Baseball, Girls' Soccer and for the first time in EHS history the Boys' Volleyball team.

The following individuals also qualified for Districts: In Cross Country, Alicia Harbold, Jaime Singer, Kelly Holst, Brynn Lyons, Dana Haas. For the Golf Team, Kati Nicholas and Amy Nicholas. The Swim Team advanced Justin Brown, Dereck Fritz, Megan Royer, Amber Davies, Lia Denlinger, Allison Royer, and Shannon Ream. The Wrestling team was represented by Jared Becker and James Zimmerman. Brad Sweigart qualified for Districts in Tennis.

Taking it to the state level was Alicia Harbold (Cross Country), Justin Brown and Megan Royer (Swimming), and the State Champion Bowling team consisting of Samantha Santora, who also was a league champ and finished 2nd individually at States, and her teammates Chelsea Weik, Ashley Snyder, Christine Gummel, Caitlin Edwards and Ashlee Eberhart.

The following players all earned First Team All Star Selections: Kyle Sensenig (Football); Derek Sipe, Paul McHenry, Dan Hagey (Soccer); Marcy Dull, Karen Noll (Field Hockey); Marcy Dull (Basketball); Megan Royer [50 Free], Justin Brown [50 Free], Amber Davies, Lia Denlinger, Shannon Ream, Megan Royer [200 medley relay], Amber Davies, Lia Denlinger, Allison Royer, Megan Royer [200 free relay](Swimming); Keirah Hoerner (Softball); Brynn Lyons (Track); Melissa Speros, Arielle Gordon, Leah Sipe (Girls' Soccer); Chris Hull, Steve Tretter, Zac Schnader, Derek Sipe (Baseball); and Daryl Thomas (Volleyball).

Brynn Lyons was also the League Champion in the long jump. Derek Sipe picked up the Section MVP in soccer.

The past year also marked a new 1000 point scorer in basketball as Marcy Dull scored her 1109th point this year. Megan Royer set the school record in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.41.

Two Lady Mounts were also named as a nominee for the A. Landis Brackbill Award (given to the top scholar-athlete in the LL League) the were Marcy Dull and Megan Royer, who was also a finalist for the award.

District III Sportsmanship Awards were also given to Amber Davies and Paul McHenry.

District III Academic Excellence Awards (senior with 3 letters career in two sports and a 3.8 GPA) went to Amber Davies, Marcy Dull, Kelly Holst, Karyn Noll, Megan Royer, Adam Gerhart, Paul McHenry, Eric Petters, Derek Sipe and Dallas Stauffer.

The Army Scholar Athlete Award went to Megan Royer and Mike Burkholder.

The Marine Outstanding Athlete Award went to Amber Davies and Dallas Stauffer.

Brian Lesher (Boys' Volleyball) also was named Coach of the Year as he guided Ephrata to their first playoff appearance.
