Lebanon Catholic edges Mounts


Lebanon Catholic made a run early.

Ephrata made a run late.

Perhaps just a tad bit too late.

After her team erased a 16-point deficit, Ephrata senior Kenzie Horst couldn't get a putback attempt to fall with 13 seconds remaining as Lebanon Catholic escaped with a 41-38 victory in a Lancaster-Lebanon quarterfinal matchup in Ephrata on Monday night.

Lady Mounts ready for LL Playoffs


A pair of teams suffering losses in the L-L quarterfinals last season returned to the tournament on a pair of winning streaks. The Section Two champion Ephrata Mountaineers (11-5, 13-9) won seven straight while the Section Four runner-up Lebanon Catholic Beavers (12-5, 16-5) grabbed four straight victories.

"They have some tremendous shooters," Ephrata coach Mike Garman said, "and Patti Hower, I have so much respect for her. She's just an unbelievable coach."

Ephrata clinches LL Section 2 Title


Kay Liebl sat on the visitor's bench toward the end of the first half in Quarryville Tuesday night, as her third foul flashed on the scoreboard alongside Ephrata's first-half lead over host Solanco.

The Mountaineers needed to clear one more hurdle to claim the Lancaster-Lebanon League's Section Two title, and Liebl, one of the team's senior captains, wanted to make sure they cleared it.

Mounts down Elizabethtown


A certain intangible energy empowered the Ephrata Mountaineers Wednesday, as they moved into sole possession of first place in Lancaster-Lebanon League's Section Two race with a 42-38 win over the host Elizabethtown.

"It's so hard to explain," Ephrata coach Mike Garman said. "It's not something you can really coach. it's from within."
