Hempfield Eliminates Lady Mounts


Hempfield, the top team from L-L Section One, put together a solid match winning 4-0 in its quarterfinal-round girls’ soccer tournament match with Section Two third-place finisher Ephrata on Saturday afternoon at Manheim Central High School.

Three second-half goals from Hempfield (15-3) provided more than enough of a cushion to get past Ephrata (13-5-1) by a 4-0 score.

Streaks stop Mounts


Denis Pasic scored two goals to lift the Blue Streaks to a 3-0 win over Ephrata in the quarterfinal match at Comet Field on Saturday night.

Willie Ransing accounted for the other goal for Township (14-3-1), which will meet Lancaster Mennonite in Tuesday’s semifinals, a 5 p.m. start at Warwick. Ephrata bowed out at 10-7-2.

Then point your GPS [directions] to Comet Field where the boys team begins play at 7:45 vs Manheim Township.

Tide rises on Mounts


Quarterback Kyle Warfel threw a pair of touchdown passes and running back Jason Price rumbled for 142 yards on 19 carries to lead host Columbia to a 35-7 [box score] victory Friday night.

The Crimson Tide (1-2 Section Three, 2-5 overall) picked up their first Section Three win of the season, scoring touchdowns on four of their first five drives to take a 28-0 lead into halftime against winless Ephrata (0-3, 0-7).
