Mounts advance in CPIHL Playoffs


Trevor Seibel scored five goals, including the eventual game-winner at 7:31 of the third period, as Ephrata overcame a two-goal deficit and beat Lampeter-Strasburg, 6-5, in the CPIHL Tier 2 playoffs Wednesday night at Lancaster Ice Rink.
 
The No. 8 Mounts advance to face Red Land in the next round of the consolation bracket on Friday, while the fith-seeded Pioneers are eliminated. Red Land beat Palmyra 5-2 on Wednesday.
 
Joshua Buohl recorded a goal and three assists and Steven Zuziak had two assists for Ephrata. Nicholas Mummau and Kyle Martin each had a goal and an assist for L-S.
 
The Mounts play Red Land on Friday night at 7:00.

Elco outlasts Mounts


Ephrata's girls' basketball coach attributed it to post-championship hangover.
 
It caused the Mounts to struggle through three sluggish, offensively-challenged quarters and then a fourth-quarter collapse, as gutsy Elco eased to a 35-26 win in the Lancaster-Lebanon League quarterfinal playoffs at Ephrata Middle School Tuesday.

Ephrata vs Cocalico for Title


The Lancaster-Lebanon League regular season ended in girls' basketball Tuesday night, but one thing is still unsettled.
 
The Section Two title.
 
Entering the night tied for the section lead, Cocalico (13-3 L-L, 17-4 overall) and Ephrata (13-3, 17-5) both won to force a one-game, winner-takes-all playoff for the Section Two crown Friday at 7 p.m. at Garden Spot.

Ephrata Earns Cheers in Win over Cocalico


It was by far the biggest crowd Sarah Haddon and her teammates had ever had at one of their girls' basketball games.
 
Problem was ...
 
"It was mostly (Cocalico's) crowd," Ephrata's senior forward said Friday night. "It was mostly their student section. So we all said, 'Let's just go out there and pretend they're cheering for us.' "
