Indians eliminate Mounts


RED LION — Landon Robertson was adamant that he made the tag — at least once.

Either way, the Donegal third baseman was ready when Ephrata’s speedy catcher, Coy Schwanger, attempted to swipe third as part of a double steal with two outs in the last inning of Thursday’s PIAA Class 5A baseball quarterfinal.

“He might have gotten there a little early, but he did slide off the bag and I kept the tag on so either way he would have been out,” Robertson said.

Schwanger was called out on the bang-bang play, ending the game as Done-gal advanced to Monday’s state semifinals with a 5-4 victory over the Mountaineers.

Mounts win first State playoff game


Peters Township came to Ephrata Monday the top-ranked team in the state, two runs away from undefeated.

Its leadoff hitter, Drew Ripepi, sent the first pitch of his team’s Class 5A state-tournament game with Ephrata into the football bleachers for a towering, and intimidating, 400-foot home run.

“Welcome to the state playoffs,’’ said Ephrata coach Adrian Shelley.

Mounts settle for Silver


A year ago at this time, Manheim Township’s perfect baseball season was coming apart.

But the Blue Streaks buried that memory Thursday with an emphatic 11-2 defeat of Ephrata in the championship game of the Lancaster-Lebanon League playoffs at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

District Silver for Mounts


FREDERICKSBURG — It’s hard to imagine a closer baseball game than Manheim Central’s 2-1 defeat of Ephrata at Wenger Field on Thursday for the District Three Class 5A championship.

The Barons (21-2) got superb pitching from Connor Rohrer and, in late relief, Jared Murray. They strung together four hits in the fifth inning for a two-run rally and created the final margin.

Mounts stun Warwick


The Mounts pulled off a 3-1, eight-inning upset of Warwick (17-3) in a semifinal of the LL baseball playoffs at Ephrata's War Memorial Field on Tuesday.

They'll play for the league title at 7 p.m. Thursday at Clipper Magazine Stadium against Manheim Township, which out-slugged Lampeter Strasburg 11-5 in the top half of the semifinal doubleheader.
