LL Cross Country Championships


While one runner was out to prove that last year was an exception, another was ready to do the expected when the student-athletes converged for Tuesday's Lancaster-Lebanon League cross country championships.

Both accomplished those goals in style on the course at the Ephrata Middle School.

Tide Rolls to First Win


One streak ended and another continued Friday night at Ephrata’s War Memorial Field. In a battle of winless teams, Columbia used a powerful run game to turn back Ephrata, 44-13 [box score].

The win stopped a nine game losing streak for the Tide and was also the first win for rookie Columbia coach Anthony Sottasante.

Final Meet Brings Showdowns


The final boys cross country meet of the Lancaster-Lebanon League regular season Tuesday could offer a preview of what to look for in the upcoming L-L championships.

Ephrata's Zach Lefever and McCaskey's Nathan Henderson -- both undefeated -- will face off as McCaskey hosts Ephrata, Elizabethtown and Lancaster Catholic.

Lady Mounts Draw with Barons


With 24 seconds left in the second of two 10-minute overtimes, and the Ephrata and Manheim Central Ephrata girls’ soccer teams headed to a certain 0-0 tie, momentum did a whiplash-inducing 180 on both sides Monday evening on Mountaineer Field.

With the Barons pushed up in one last-gasp effort, sophomore centerback Kayla Herr stepped to a loose ball near the top of the box, unleashing one final shot on goal, a rising rocket on frame.
