Cocalico pounds Ephrata

Despite terrible circumstances, Jhett Janis had no doubt.

No doubt, that is, that he would play football Friday night.

Terrible because Janis' older brother, Brett, passed away on Thursday.

"There was no question that I would play,'' Jhett Janis said.

With a heavy heart and the fire provided by his brother's memory, Jhett Janis rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown, added 88 return yards and returned an interception for 25 yards in the Eagles' 54-0 [box score] Section Two victory over host Ephrata Friday night.

Mounts eliminate Eagles

Ephrata dispatched Cocalico for the third time this season, winning 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-16) at Hempfield. The Mounts, who defeated their Section Two foe twice during the regular season, got eight kills from Julia Witmer and four blocks from Morgan Lehman.

Ephrata (11-6), the No. 16 seed, advances to play top-seeded Hempfield at 3 p.m. Saturday at Central York High School [directions].

Kristen Boyer led the way for 17th-seeded Cocalico (9-6) with 12 kills and seven blocks.

Mounts firing on all cylinders

The master plan finally came together for the Mountaineers in Quarryville on Friday night.

Blake Weaver scored three touchdowns, Bobby Nye threw for two and Ephrata (2-4 league, 2-7 overall) played stout defense in a 35-0 [boxscore] win over L-L League Section Two foe Solanco.

Mounts advance to Quarterfinals

The Ephrata Boys Soccer team opened the District 3 tournament on Tuesday night. The Mounts hosted the Exeter Eagles, and proved to be rather rude hosts ending the Eagles' season with a 2-1 victory. Nate Eberly scored Ephrata's second goal in the 71st minute to lead the Mounts over the Eagles (10-8-2).

Carl Rowits also scored for Ephrata (14-5-1), while Trevor Boyer and Kyle Phillips added assists. Ephrata will play top seeded Wilson (20-1-1) in the quarterfinals on Saturday Oct 27th at Hamburg Area High School [directions].
